A fish you’ve definitely never heard of.

This blog post is about the stoplight loosejaw (malacosteus niger). It dwells in the deep of the sea, where no light reaches, so it creates its own!


This creature lives so far underneath the surface of the ocean no light can travel far enough. At this level of the ocean. 13,000ft also means a lot of pressure! They also have no light to go off of, so they’ve adapted around this challenge. They produce red light (which isn’t picked up by most creatures at that depth), and if they see an animal swim in that light, they snatch it up with their jaw.

this is my cardboard recreation. I tried to make it as similar as possible.

Atlas moth (Attacus atlas)- lives in the woods, has physical adaptations for its environment
